El artista griego Petros Vrellis utilizó aproximadamente un kilómetro y medio de hilo para recrear las figuras más emblemáticas del renacimiento.

El artista une el hilo en un telar circular de 200 clavijas, creando impresionantes retratos a partir de tres mil líneas rectas que se intersectan numerosas veces.

Vrellis hace el trabajo manualmente con la ayuda de un algoritmo calculado previamente. El artista sube una foto de la obra a openframeworks, una plataforma digital que emite un patrón a seguir.

Un rostro velado por las sombras emerge de cada telar redondo en A new way to knit(Una nueva manera de tejer), un proyecto contradictorio, porque el método no implica dar puntadas ni entrelazar las fibras de modo tradicional.

Vrellis amarra a los ganchos mil 500 metros de bobina, en líneas rectas, perfectas y tirantes como las cuerdas de un instrumento. Repite el ejercicio entre 3 mil y 4 milveces y recorre entre uno y dos kilómetros.

Los rostros están inspirados en pinturas de El Greco (1541-1614), pintor de pintores, creador de rostros alargados y expresivos a pesar de su contención. Transformadas en hilo, las caras parecen permanecer tras un velo, difuminadas y con gesto ambiguo.
